Whatever happened to Promotional Marketing?

Has Promotional Marketing become the poor cousin of the marketing family?

There have been some impressive coming-of-age moments for some of the other Marketing family members. Shopper Marketing has grown up to become a scientist, playing a vital role in prioritising and organising the shopping experience. Digital Marketing has matured from upstart newcomer to all-inclusive hero in a remarkably short space of time. Digital has even started to bring in offspring of it's own - Social Marketing in particular is starting to behave like a future heavyweight. Even the fatherly figure at the head of the table, Old Master Above-The-Line, has graciously acknowledged the need to reset the seating plan to accommodate a burgeoning family.
Meanwhile, Promotional Marketing has been undergoing a quiet revolution. And, as with any dysfunctional family, it's the quiet ones that are worth watching.
